Knowing the itaipu dam dress code prevents you from being turned away at the gate. Because this is an active hydroelectric plant, safety regulations dictate what visitors can wear inside the facility. Here is exactly how to dress for your chosen tour.

What is the Itaipu Dam dress code for the Special Tour?

You must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes to enter the facility.

The Itaipu Special tour takes you deep inside the active power plant. Due to the industrial environment, the dress code is strictly enforced. You must wear pants that go below the knee, like jeans or trousers. Your shoes must completely cover your toes and heels.

Are shorts and skirts allowed inside the dam?

No. Shorts, long skirts, and palazzo pants are strictly prohibited on the Special Tour.

If you arrive wearing shorts or skirts, security will not let you join the interior tour. The wide fabric of palazzo pants is also banned for safety reasons near the turbine shafts and industrial equipment.

What should you wear for the Itaipu Panoramic tour?

You can wear casual, weather-appropriate clothing on the Panoramic tour.

The exterior tour uses an open-air double-decker bus. There are no strict clothing bans here. You can wear shorts, t-shirts, skirts, and sandals. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses, as most of this tour happens outdoors under the sun.

Do I need to bring weather gear?

Pack a raincoat or poncho for rainy days and a light jacket for cool weather.

The open-top buses on the Panoramic tour expose you to the elements. A raincoat is helpful if you visit during the rainy summer season from December to February. A light sweater is useful for air-conditioned interior sections or cooler mornings.

Can I bring bags on the tours?

You cannot bring bags, backpacks, or purses on the Special Tour.

You must leave all bags in lockers before entering the plant. Lockers are available at the visitor center for BRL 10. You will need Brazilian Reais (cash, card, or PIX) to rent one. You can carry your smartphone or camera for photos.

Panoramic vs. Special Tour Dress Code

The rules change completely depending on whether you stay outside or go inside.

Review these differences before you pack for the day.
